Job summary

SageWest Health Care in Fremont County, Wyoming, seeks a Medical Technologist to perform routine and complex lab procedures across chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking.

A bachelor’s degree in MLS/Med Tech and certification is preferred; state licensure as required, with BLS preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.
• NAACLS-accredited program preferred.
• ASCP/AAB/AMT MT/MLS certification preferred; state license as required.
• BLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform tests in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, and urinalysis.
• Analyze, validate, and interpret test results for diagnostic accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment.
• Review patient specimens to confirm accuracy before testing.
• Maintain laboratory records and LIS data entry.
• Support quality assurance programs including proficiency testing.
• Collaborate with physicians and staff to ensure accurate test results.
• Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and processing as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow infection control protocols.
• Participate in continuing education and stay updated on lab advancements.

Job Summary

The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory procedures in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking. This role involves analyzing test results, ensuring quality control, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to regulatory guidelines. The Medical Technologist collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnostic information essential to patient care.

Essential Functions

• Perform laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, blood banking, and urinalysis.
• Analyze, validate, and interpret test results to ensure diagnostic accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Perform equipment calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting according to established protocols.
• Review and verify patient specimens to confirm accuracy before testing.
• Maintain laboratory records, ensuring accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• Assist in quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing and equipment validation.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to provide accurate test results and address diagnostic concerns.
• Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and sample processing as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
• Participate in continuing education and stay updated on advancements in laboratory technology.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field required
• Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Science program preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred
• Valid state license as required by the state.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Experience

• Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred
• Experience in high complexity testing and quality control procedures preferred
