Job summary

Advocate Health in High Point, NC seeks a Medical Technologist to join the Laboratory team. You will perform and validate accurate laboratory tests, and assist in transporting specimens and preparing blood components for transfusions.

Candidates must hold a NAACLS MT program with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, MT ASCP certification, and prior clinical lab experience. This is a full-time, night-shift role with a 7 on/7 off schedule and competitive pay.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and NAACLS Medical Technologist program, five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification.
• Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.
• Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients.
• Prepares and issues blood components for patient transfusions.
• Assists in the collection and transport of patient samples from the clinics to laboratory sections.
• Handles hazardous materials in accordance with regulations to ensure safe working environment.
• Requisitions and maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations.
• Supervises, trains, and reviews the work of students and lower-level technicians engaged in clinical laboratory work.
• Operates complex specialized laboratory instruments; instructs other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments.

Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify:

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients.

• Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing procedures.

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to infections, contagious diseases, and the risk of bloodborne diseases.
• Exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, waste, odorous chemicals and specimens.
• Subject to electrical, radiant energy and radiation hazards.
• Exposure to a variety of electro-mechanical/power equipment.
• Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals.
• Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment.
• Subject to long irregular hours.
