Good Shepherd Health Care in Hermiston, Oregon is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our hospital laboratory team. You will perform clinical testing across microbiology, chemistry, hematology, serology, and blood bank, maintain logs and records, and interpret results with precision.
Requirements include MLS (ASCP) or equivalent, graduation from an accredited MLS program, and at least one year of hospital lab experience.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is responsible to the laboratory manager or to the laboratory medical director. Duties will include clinical laboratory testing in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, serology, blood bank, parasitology, urinalysis, or referred procedures. The MLS will maintain logs, binders, and records in accordance with the governing agency. They will confirm, verify, correlate, and interpret results using in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, instruments, and physiology. They will share in performance of clinical lab functions associated with the lab. They will provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, staff, and other employees as needed. The medical laboratory scientist has the authority to order questionable results rechecked, to judge the adequacy of submitted specimens and to request another if original is unsatisfactory. May be required to perform special tasks including but not limited to: individual projects, policy review, creating new policies, section head responsibilities, serving on hospital committees, or special task forces

Required: Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory science program.

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
