Job summary

The Town of Collierville is hiring a Medical Technician to join our Animal Services team. You’ll oversee the daily medical care and well-being of animals in the shelter’s care, including animals housed offsite or in foster homes.

You’ll administer and accurately document medications and treatments, maintain complete medical records, monitor animal health and behavior, and ensure follow-up appointments, surgeries, and recurring medications are scheduled and completed in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience working with animals in an animal shelter, boarding or care facility, or a veterinary clinic.
• Knowledge of vaccinations, diagnostic testing, parasite prevention and treatment would be expected.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily medical care and well-being of shelter animals.
• Administer and document medications and treatments.

• Coordinate with the Administrative Veterinarian to triage and treat animals.
• Manage pre-operative and post-operative care and ongoing medical monitoring.

What's The Role?

Working as a Medical Technician, you can expect to oversee the daily medical care and well-being of animals in the shelter's care, including animals housed offsite or in foster homes. You'll administer and accurately document medications and treatments, maintain complete medical records, monitor animal health and behavior, and ensure follow-up appointments, surgeries, and recurring medications are scheduled and completed in a timely manner. This position ensures animals receive appropriate intake medical protocols, including examinations, vaccinations, diagnostic testing, parasite prevention, and treatment, while providing guidance to shelter staff and foster caregivers on medication administration, sanitation, nutrition, isolation procedures, and follow-up care. You'll determine appropriate housing assignments based on each animal's medical and behavioral needs to support health, disease prevention, and recovery. Additional responsibilities include reviewing daily medical reports, preparing and administering medications, identifying and responding to medical concerns, coordinating with the Administrative Veterinarian to triage and treat animals, and managing pre-operative and post-operative care and ongoing medical monitoring.

Here is what you need to be considered for the position of Medical Technician:

High School Diploma

Supplemented by two (2) years of experience working with animals in an animal shelter, boarding or care facility, or a veterinary clinic; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Valid Driver's License

Must obtain a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician certification within twelve (12) months of employment and maintain throughout employment.
