Job summary

Naval Health Clinic New England is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform laboratory testing and examinations, and to document results using automated systems within a federal direct-hire framework. Eligibility requires US citizenship and appropriate education or experience.

Certification by ASCP/AMT or equivalent is required for the role. One year of specialized lab experience and one year of graduate education are specified; combinations are allowed.

Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience which includes performing laboratory tests and examinations; preparing reports of laboratory tests and examinations findings; and utilizing laboratory automated system to document results.
  • One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.
  • A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS). About the Position:

This Medical Tech position is located at Naval Health Clinic New England, Directorate of Clinical Support.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Advanced Leave Accrival may be authorized.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience

One year of specialized experience which includes performing laboratory tests and examinations; preparing reports of laboratory tests and examinations findings; and utilizing laboratory automated system to document results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education

One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Lab Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.

Combination of Education and Experience

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
