Job summary

Youth Opportunity is hiring a Medical Technician to support medical services at Osceola Youth Center in Evart, Michigan. This role provides direct patient care, assists with treatments, administers medications as directed, and maintains medical records to support the facility’s healthcare operations.

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, and able to communicate effectively with youth and care teams. Requires a high school diploma and willingness to obtain state certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and assist with medical treatments.
  • Administer medications as directed and maintain medical records.
  • Explain treatments clearly to youth and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain accurate medical records and lab tests.
  • Assist physicians and healthcare professionals during examinations.
  • Monitor youth health and communicate concerns to the care team.

About Youth Opportunity & Osceola Youth Center

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health services for youth. Osceola Youth Center in Evart, Michigan, provides short-term residential care for males ages 10 to 17 who require behavioral support in a secure, structured, and trauma-informed environment.

Each youth receives a comprehensive screening, assessment, and individualized care plan based on their specific needs. The program provides 24-hour supervision, daily care, education, physical and mental health services, supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and social and independent living skills development.

Educational services are provided in partnership with Evart Public Schools. Youth receive individualized academic support along with opportunities to strengthen social skills, independent living abilities, and vocational readiness.

Position Summary – Medical Technician Job in Evart, MI

We are hiring a Medical Technician to support medical services at Osceola Youth Center. This position provides direct patient care, assists with medical treatments, administers medications as directed, maintains medical records, and completes administrative duties that support the facility’s healthcare operations.

This role is ideal for someone who is organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with youth, medical professionals, and other members of the care team.

Medical Technician Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document youth medical histories and vital signs
  • Explain medical treatments and procedures in an appropriate and understandable manner
  • Schedule medical appointments and coordinate follow-up care
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician or other authorized medical provider
  • Administer injections as directed by an authorized medical provider
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare professionals with medical examinations
  • Prepare, update, and maintain accurate medical records
  • Perform authorized routine laboratory tests
  • Collect, label, and process specimens for laboratory testing
  • Sterilize and prepare medical instruments and equipment
  • Maintain the cleanliness and readiness of medical equipment
  • Monitor, order, and restock medical and office supplies
  • Complete clerical duties, including answering telephones, filing records, and updating patient information
  • Communicate medical concerns and changes in a youth’s condition to the appropriate healthcare professional
Other Duties Include
  • Maintain a high standard of professional and role-model behavior for youth
  • Participate in required training and professional development activities
  • Report any acts, incidents, or conditions reflecting the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships
  • Report any use of physical intervention and all unusual incidents according to established guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain all state or organizational certifications required for the position
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate with youth respectfully and without being patronizing
  • Strong analytical and independent decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate, objective, and confidential medical documentation
  • Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, and approved crisis-intervention certifications during the probationary period
  • Ability to pass required background checks and pre-employment screenings
Preferred Experience
  • Two or more years of experience working with youth
  • Previous experience in a medical office, residential treatment program, behavioral health setting, or similar healthcare environment
  • Experience with medication administration, vital signs, medical records, specimen collection, and basic clinical procedures
  • Medical Technician, Medical Assistant, or related healthcare training or certification
Other Requirements
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor level to shoulder height. Extensive walking and standing are required. Must be able to recognize and respond quickly to medical or behavioral emergencies, youth altercations, attempts at self-harm, or attempts to leave the program without authorization. Must be able to perform approved physical intervention techniques and participate with youth in active and passive activities indoors and outdoors, including occasionally during inclement weather. Must be capable of transporting youth and meet applicable communicable-disease requirements.
  • Other: Must meet all applicable state criminal background check and pre-employment screening requirements.
