Job summary

AdventHealth in Castle Rock, Colorado, is seeking a Laboratory Technologist to handle and interpret test results, ensuring timely communication to caregivers and accurate diagnoses. You will maintain instruments, manage LIS systems, and participate in training of new staff.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science field and relevant training or experience. This PRN night shift position offers exposure to clinical lab environments and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biological, Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
  • Bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or 24 semester hours of science courses including Chemistry/ Biology (12 hours total) and related requirements.
  • Completion of ABHES/CAAHEP approved training or equivalent clinical laboratory training; or 3 months of documented lab training in each testing specialty; or military lab procedures training.

Responsibilities

  • Handles and resolves customer inquiries and complaints regarding laboratory results and test requirements.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment, adhering to laboratory, hospital, and regulatory policies.
  • Generates and reports results for accurate diagnoses and prognoses influencing patient care.
  • Utilizes critical thinking and independent judgment to correlate and interpret data.
  • Manages laboratory computer systems.
  • Ensures accurate and timely result reporting, including communication and documentation of critical results.
  • Compiles and reviews reports to ensure timely collection, processing, and testing of samples.
  • Resolves unusual test orders by following up with caregivers, reference labs, or pathology.
  • Participates in new associate and student training and orientation.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots instruments, documenting activities.
  • Completes required quality control and maintenance, recognizing variances and documenting corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education:


  • Bachelor's [Required]


Field of Study:


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biological, Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology from an accredited institution; OR

  • Bachelor's degree equivalency with:

    • 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; OR

    • 24 semester hours of science courses, including:

      • 6 semester hours of Chemistry

      • 6 semester hours of Biology

      • 12 semester hours of Chemistry, Biology, or Medical Laboratory Technology (any combination)





  • AND completion of a laboratory training program that includes one of the following:

    • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by ABHES or CAAHEP (training may be included in the semester hours listed above); OR

    • At least 3 months of documented laboratory training in each specialty in which testing is performed; OR

    • Successful completion of at least a 50-week official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have previously held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); OR

    • Qualified and served as high-complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995, in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have performed such duties continuously since December 28, 2024.
