Job summary

MDI Hospital and Birch Bay Retirement Village in Bar Harbor, ME, is seeking an experienced registered nurse to provide total nursing care for patients in the medical/surgical unit. You will apply the nursing process to deliver holistic, high-quality care across ages, from infants to geriatrics, and support Swing Bed Program patients per Critical Access Hospital standards.

Description

Summary:

Responsible for total nursing care of assigned patients in the medical/surgical area. Patients range in age from infants through geriatrics. Responsible for providing care to patients with medical, surgical, and minor psychiatric problems. Renders safe patient care while maintaining a clean and safe patient environment. Utilizes the nursing process to provide quality care to patients in a holistic manner. Provides care to the Swing Bed Program patients in compliance with Critical Access Hospital Standards for provision of care.

Requirements

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

1. Holds a current Maine license.
2. Current BLS.

Experience Required:

1. Recent training/experience in medication administration.
2. Recent training/experience in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.

Special Requirements:

1. Demonstrates proficient IV skills.
2. Possesses basic computer skills.

Cognitive Requirements:

1. Emotional maturity and good people skills required.
2. Able to take in, process and apply clinical information in a wide variety of patient care situations.

Physical Demands:

1. Able to sit, stand and walk for an eight or twelve-hour shift.
2. Has adequate hearing, vision, speech and manual dexterity.
3. General health must be such as to regularly work scheduled hours.
4. Able to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. (assisting patient in and out of bed, etc.).

Environment:

1. Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
2. Potential for exposure to contagious diseases.
