The International College of Health Sciences (ICHS) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical Instructor to join our academic team. This position offers an exciting opportunity for experienced medical-surgical nursing professionals to instruct and supervise nursing students in acute-care hospital settings. Purpose

The Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical Instructor provides direct supervision, instruction, and evaluation to nursing students during clinical rotations in acute-care medical-surgical environments. This role ensures students develop the practical skills, clinical judgment, communication abilities, and professional behaviors necessary to provide safe, patient-centered nursing care to adult patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.

Clinical schedules may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or twelve-hour shifts based on clinical-site and academic needs.

Responsibilities

Clinical Instruction & Supervision

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing students during clinical rotations in medical-surgical and other adult acute-care hospital units.
• Provide direct, on-site oversight of students while they deliver patient care, perform clinical skills, administer medications, complete documentation, and communicate with patients and members of the interdisciplinary care team.
• Demonstrate and teach best practices in medical-surgical nursing, including patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, clinical prioritization, patient education, infection prevention, safety, and discharge planning.
• Assist students in developing sound clinical judgment, time-management skills, delegation awareness, critical-thinking abilities, and appropriate escalation of patient-care concerns.
• Ensure student compliance with clinical-site policies and procedures, including patient-safety requirements, confidentiality standards, medication-administration protocols, documentation expectations, and infection-control practices.
• Monitor student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback to support student development and safe clinical practice.
• Foster a supportive, inclusive, and professional clinical learning environment that promotes student confidence, accountability, and competence.

Curriculum Implementation

• Collaborate with academic leadership and course faculty to implement medical-surgical clinical objectives aligned with course outcomes and program requirements.
• Integrate current evidence-based nursing practices, standards of care, and clinical guidelines into student instruction.
• Reinforce classroom and laboratory concepts through real-time clinical teaching, guided reflection, and post-conference discussions.
• Participate in the development, delivery, and evaluation of clinical learning activities, simulations, skills validation, and student remediation as needed.
• Evaluate student achievement of clinical competencies and communicate concerns, progress, and recommendations to the appropriate academic leadership.

Professional Communication & Collaboration

• Serve as a professional liaison among ICHS, clinical-site staff, students, faculty, and academic leadership.
• Maintain open, timely, and professional communication with unit leadership, hospital staff, faculty, and students.
• Collaborate with clinical-site personnel to support a productive learning environment while maintaining respect for patient-care operations and hospital workflows.
• Attend faculty meetings, orientation sessions, clinical-site meetings, training programs, and professional-development activities as required.

Administrative Duties

• Complete accurate and timely documentation of student attendance, clinical hours, performance, competencies, progress, and evaluations.
• Report student performance issues, patient-safety concerns, clinical-site concerns, and incidents to the appropriate academic leadership promptly.
• Maintain required clinical-faculty credentials, compliance documentation, licensure, and certifications in accordance with institutional and clinical-site requirements.
• Ensure compliance with institutional, state, accreditation, clinical-site, and regulatory standards governing nursing education and student clinical experiences.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Knowledge

• Unencumbered Florida or Compact State RN license required.
• Minimum of four years of clinical experience as a registered nurse required.
• Strong recent medical-surgical nursing experience in an acute-care hospital environment required.
• Recent experience caring for adult patients with complex medical and surgical conditions strongly preferred.
• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school required.
• Experience in clinical instruction, preceptorship, charge nurse responsibilities, staff development, or nursing education preferred.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, coaching, or evaluating nursing students, new graduates, or newly hired nurses is strongly preferred.

Required Skills

• Strong current knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practice, including comprehensive patient assessment, medication administration, clinical prioritization, care planning, patient education, safety, infection prevention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Ability to supervise nursing students in a fast-paced acute-care hospital environment while maintaining a high standard of patient safety and professional accountability.
• Ability to assess student performance, provide clear and constructive feedback, and support the development of clinical judgment and professional nursing behaviors.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, hospital staff, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient conditions and guide students in recognizing and escalating clinical concerns.
• Proficiency with electronic health-record documentation systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and across multiple clinical sites.
• Commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional, ethical, and patient-centered nursing practice.

Additional Requirements

• Must reside within commuting distance of Kendall, Florida.
• This is not a remote position; regular on-site presence at assigned clinical locations is required.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or twelve-hour clinical shifts as needed.
• Must be able to satisfy all ICHS and clinical-site onboarding, health-screening, immunization, background-check, drug-screening, and compliance requirements.
