Job summary

Marion VA Health Care System is seeking three full‑time Nursing Assistants for the Medical/Surgical Unit in Marion, IL. The Nursing Assistant works as part of a nursing team caring for acutely ill Veterans requiring constant monitoring and intervention.

Basic requirements include U.S. citizenship or eligibility, English proficiency, and six months of general experience or equivalent education. The full performance level includes GS‑5 expectations with supervision and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship per VA policy; eligible citizens or as allowed by policy.
• English language proficiency in speaking and writing.

Responsibilities

• Take and record patient vital signs and monitor status.
• Assist with activities of daily living and basic nursing care.
• Support RN and LVN in treatment and patient safety.
• Assist with patient transfers and mobility as needed.
• Maintain clean, safe patient rooms and care areas.
• Participate in team conferences and handoffs to ensure continuity of care.
