Join the Sterile Processing Services team at the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where you'll support the critical decontamination and preparation of reusable medical devices. This position is in the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) program under Patient Care Services at the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center. SPS consists of multiple areas; the incumbent will support the decontamination, preparation, and distribution of the hospital's critical and semi-critical reusable (RMD) medical devices.
Basic Requirements:
May qualify under the Grandfathering Provision if applicable.
Grade Determinations:
Experience or education beyond basic requirements. Guided by more experienced staff, requires frequent supervision.
Six months of related experience or two years of relevant education. Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions, medical terminology, sterilization devices, and communication skills. Performs segments of work related to decontamination, sterilization, inspection, and assembly of basic sets and trays.
One year of experience at the GS-04 level or higher education with relevant coursework. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instruments, event-related packaging, and sterilization devices.
One year of experience at the GS-05 level. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments, universal precautions, medical terminology, microbiology, sterility principles, and interprets instructions.

The full performance level is GS-06; applicants may be considered from GS-03 to GS-06.
Physical Requirements: Includes standing, moving, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing carts, dexterity, visual acuity, working around contaminants and hazards, and exposure to noise and odors.
