Medical Scribe
Oak Street Health
The purpose of a Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS or Medical Scribe) at Oak Street Health is to support primary care providers with clinical documentation so that they can focus on providing exceptional care to patients. Scribes assist providers throughout the patient care journey – from morning huddles to plan visits, joining examinations to observe and document, and following up after visits to assist with next steps.
Beyond the typical Scribe role, these team members serve as clinical documentation assistants, referred internally as CISs (Clinic Informatics Specialists), supporting accurate, specific, and timely documentation. They become experts in value‑based care models, chronic condition documentation, ICD‑10 and CPT coding, and help close care gaps. Extensive on‑the‑job training covers clinical workflows, value‑based medicine, preventative chronic care, documentation standards, population health data, and team‑based care.
Ideal candidates are willing to commit at least 1–2 years to this role and are suitable for pre‑med, Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Medical Coding, or related fields.
