Job summary

EPPA in partnership with The Urgency Room seeks motivated individuals to gain hands-on exposure to emergency care through medical transcription and real-time observation. The Scribe Program supports physicians by documenting encounters and assisting with orders in hospital and clinic settings.

Scribes work one-on-one with physicians, enabling more time with patients while learning patient care workflows. Full- or part-time options, with paid training and benefits, are available.

Emergency Physician Professional Association (EPPA) Scribe Program:
EPPA and The Urgency Room (ambulatory, acute care clinic) are in search of interested individuals looking to experience, through transcription and observation, multiple aspects of medical care first-hand.Our healthcare provider affiliation is predominantly in the area of emergency medicine; however, it expands to other medical specialties. Our scribes play a vital role in the health care management process of our patients, working one‑on‑one with the physician and medical support team. We have various hospital and clinic affiliations within the Twin Cities area, offering full‑time and part‑time employment options. The purpose of the Scribe position is to handle time‑consuming clerical responsibilities for physicians during patient encounters in the hospital or clinic. Scribes accompany a physician into each patient room to directly observe and transcribe patient encounters. They accurately document the events and decision‑making in a manner that results in appropriate medical charting. Scribes also complete clerical activities necessary to assist with the processing of physician orders for tests and medications. By accomplishing the time‑consuming clerical duties that otherwise would be assigned to a physician, Scribes enable physicians to spend more time with individual patients and increase the overall efficiency of the department.

Working Conditions

Scribes work in a fast-pacedemergency departments, hospitals, and clinics. Physical requirements include but are not limited to continuous standing during shift, repeated sitting, listening, fluorescent lighting, repetitive typing and key entry work, computer work, and other normal hospital conditions. Ability to push and maneuver a portable computer on wheels. The position may require some lifting up to 20 pounds. Scribes will interact with patients, families, ancillary staff, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and others.
This is a full‑time or part‑time position, as determined at the beginning of employment. Employees are expected to work as scheduled, including regularly scheduled evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and some holidays.
