Job summary

AstraZeneca is seeking a Respiratory Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for the COPD team. This field-based role covers Washington and neighboring states, engaging pulmonologists and KOLs to share evidence-based insights that influence patient care.

You will translate complex scientific data into clinician-friendly information, support regional and national meetings, and help advance education and collaboration with healthcare professionals. Expect 50–70% travel and strong regulatory awareness.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a clinical or scientific field (MD, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA).
  • 1–2 years of clinical or pharmaceutical experience with exposure to respiratory disease and KOL engagement.
  • Understanding of healthcare delivery, payer structures and treatment pathways.
  • Clinical experience in the relevant therapeutic area and ability to build professional relationships.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex scientific information clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for medical affairs.
  • Ability to travel 50–70% (varies by geography), including weekends and overnights.

The BBU develops and drives therapeutic area and product strategies that address unmet patient needs globally. What You’ll Do

In this field-based role covering Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, Utah and Nevada, you will:

  • Engage and build relationships:Develop and maintain strong connections with pulmonologists, hospitalists, primary care providers and key opinion leaders (KOLs) in pulmonary disease management.
  • Scientific exchange and insights:Collect, analyze, and share evidence-based insights while leveraging territory relationships to accelerate knowledge transfer and influence clinical practice
  • Pulmonary experience:Apply prior experience or meaningful exposure to pulmonary disease in field activities and translate complex scientific data into clear, clinician-ready insights
  • Education and collaboration:Support clinician education, deliver presentations, and provide clinical guidance at regional and national meetings
  • Patient-focused impact:Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes and provide actionable insights to internal teams
  • Regulatory and product knowledge:Respond to inquiries with clear, balanced scientific information while ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards
  • Continuous learning:Stay current on disease state management, emerging therapies, and the competitive landscape

Minimum Requirements
  • Advanced degree in a clinical or scientific field (MD, PharmD, PhD, NP, PA)
  • 1–2 years of clinical experience or pharmaceutical experience with exposure to respiratory disease areas, including KOL engagement, scientific exchange, and territory-based field activities
  • Understanding of healthcare delivery systems, payer structures, and treatment pathways

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $160,396 – $240,594 USD. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives, including short-term bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles, and commissions for sales roles. Benefits include retirement programs, paid time off, and health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with applicable plans.
