Job summary

Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) in Phoenix seeks a Medical Research Technician / Phlebotomist to support clinical studies on-site. You will perform blood draws, vitals assessments, and sample handling while ensuring comfort and safety for diverse participants, including pediatric and autistic individuals.

  • Maintain meticulous records for data access and interpretation.
  • Explain procedures to reduce anxiety for participants.

Medical Research Technician / Phlebotomist

Phoenix, AZ

As a Medical Research Technician, you are a vital link in the clinical research chain. You will provide essential study support by performing medical assessments, ensuring the integrity of our data, and—most importantly—providing a comfortable, professional experience for our research participants. This role focuses on the intersection of clinical skill and empathetic participant engagement.

Core Skills & Responsibilities
Clinical Technical Proficiency
  • Phlebotomy: Perform safe and efficient blood draws (venipuncture) on a diverse range of participants, including pediatric and neurodivergent populations.
  • Vitals Assessment: Perform ECG’s and EEG’s. Accurately measure and record height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
  • Sample Management: Handle, process (centrifuging), and store biological samples according to strict laboratory protocols.
Research Integrity & Data Accuracy
  • Protocol Adherence: Follow specific study protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) without deviation to ensure data validity.
  • Documentation: Maintain meticulous records in electronic and written formats for easy access, interpretation and use by other authorized research team members.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Maintain a working knowledge of HIPAA and GCP (Good Clinical Practice) guidelines.
Patient-Centered Communication
  • Adaptability: Tailor your approach to meet the unique sensory or communication needs of participants within the autism community.
  • Informed Consent Support: Assist in explaining procedures to participants and families to alleviate anxiety and ensure comfort.
Qualifications
  • Certification: Current Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT).
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in a medical environment, experience with pediatric populations is highly preferred.
Salary

$20/hr
