Job description

Job Summary

The Medical Professional is responsible for the evaluation of donors’ eligibility for automated plasmapheresis procedures. This role includes the administration and supervision of approved immunizations in accordance with state regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Medical Professional also provides limited emergency care as permitted by licensure or certification, training, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Working knowledge of all operational areas within the plasma center is required. Additionally, the Medical Professional ensures compliance with SOPs, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and all relevant regulatory guidelines.

This Is What You’ll Do

• Determine donor eligibility of new and return donors for plasmapheresis procedures and immunizations by conducting evaluations to ensure criteria of plasma donors are met and in accordance with SOPs, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA), and cGMP.
• Review informed consent forms for plasmapheresis and immunization. Include explanation of procedures, potential adverse events, immunization schedules, possible antibody formation, and dose administration. Offer clear opportunity for donor to refuse participation.
• Perform medical history reviews and health assessments for donors.
• Use SOPs to facilitate compliance with regulations.
• Review donor management system and/or immunization paperwork to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Review accumulated data in a timely fashion to confirm eligibility and consult with donor center Licensed Physician, as needed.
• Classify donors to appropriate program.
• Monitor donor reactions to plasmapheresis and document, accordingly.
• Perform duties for the Hyperimmune Program, if applicable, as described in SOPs.
• Review all normal and abnormal test results in donor management system (Nexlynk) to determine continued donor eligibility.
• Ensure confidentiality of employee, donor, and donor center records while performing all duties.
• Counsel donors with abnormal test results or eligibility concerns and defer them according to the donor deferral matrix. Refer donors to appropriate county/state health department or similar for follow up and diagnostic testing, when applicable per SOP.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This Is What It Takes

• Graduate of a recognized healthcare‑related educational program, such as Physician, Nurse (Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse). Certified/licensed as an emergency medical technician (EMT Basic, EMT 2‑intermediate or 3‑advanced/paramedic, if allowable).
• Must work within the scope of the professional license/certification, as defined by the state in which the work is performed.
• One (1)‑year experience in the hospital, field care, or experience in a plasma center preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Maintain current and valid license and pass medical credential evaluation.
• Must successfully complete training program and competency assessments using OPI‑approved training modules or training curriculum.
• Must maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
