Memorial Hospital - Chattanooga is seeking a Medical Physicist for the Radiation Oncology department. The role focuses on advancing research, developing innovative models, and applying physics principles to complex challenges in cancer care.

You will design experiments, analyze data, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while contributing to safety and quality through regulatory knowledge and leadership. A Ph.D. in Physics or related field and a track record in research are required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist supervision of departmental associates; monitor results and make recommendations.
  • Educate staff on ASTRO/state/federal regulations related to radiation phenomena.
  • Assist in interviewing and selection of radiation oncology staff.
  • Lead evaluation and purchase of equipment; manage service contracts.
  • Coordinate service and maintenance with Clinical Engineering and vendors.
  • Measure machine outputs and calibrate to ensure regulatory compliance.

As a Medical Physicist, you will be a central figure responsible for conducting advanced research, developing innovative theories, and applying fundamental physics principles to solve complex scientific and technological challenges. You will play a vital role in advancing knowledge and fostering discovery.
Every day, you will meticulously design and execute experiments, collect and analyze complex data, develop and validate theoretical models, and present findings clearly. You will also collaborate extensively with multidisciplinary teams, utilize advanced tools, and continuously strive to push boundaries in your specialized area.
To be successful in this role, you will combine a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, a proven track record of significant research, and exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. You will demonstrate a meticulous approach to scientific inquiry, strong communication, and thrive in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating environment dedicated to groundbreaking innovations.

  • Assisting with the supervision of departmental associates, e.g. physicists, dosimetrists, rad therapy techs, nurses, schedulers and registrars to assure accuracy of work; monitoring results and making recommendations. The director utilizes the manager to oversee the clinic and the administrative positions.
  • Educating physicists, dosimetrists, therapists and nurses of applicable ASTRO, state and federal regulations related to radiation phenomena.
  • Assisting in the interviewing and selection process of all radiation oncology staff.
  • Leads in the evaluation and purchase of equipment and the implementation of service contracts and
  • Coordinating service and maintenance with Clinical Engineering (Bio-Med) and the vendors.
  • Measuring machine outputs and calibrating to ensure compliance with standards of good practice and applicable state and federal regulations relating to radiation phenomena.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Certificate Other Medical Physics and 5 years’ experience in radiation therapy, analytical and organizational skills to enable one to implement necessary safety programs and regulations, high level knowledge in radiotherapy, state/federal agencies regulating use of radioactive materials, upon hire and
  • 3 yrs. leadership experience.
