Works at the clinic site in collaboration with the Cancer Care Leadership to ensure high quality and safe interpretation, delivery, operation, and monitoring of radiation safety policies, procedures, standards, and equipment for Radiation Oncology Services.

Job Responsibilities
Planning and Clinical Responsibilities
  • Acquisition and storage of data for treatment plans, contouring and calculation of dose distributions and machine settings for treatment delivery.
  • Develop treatment plans as assigned including routine, 3D, IMRT, IGRT, HDR, SGRT and SRS/SBRT treatment planning.
  • Translate desired treatment plan into a set of instructions for the Radiation Therapist(s) to execute.
  • Collaborate with the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapists in the treatment planning. Help with verification and execution of plans.
  • Provide consultation to the Radiologist(s) and Radiation Oncologist(s) on the physical and radiobiological aspect of treatment.
  • Dose calibration for radionuclides available in Nuclear Medicine department as required.
  • Provide full services including contouring and developing treatment plans for VET customers.
Physics Responsibilities
  • Systematic measurement, documentation, and assurance of the physics aspects of all radiation delivery equipment used in clinics.
  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of all treatment-related equipment which includes calibration of all radiation producing sources and maintenance of all information for their appropriate use, radiation safety and compliance with state and national regulations.
  • Measurement and analysis of beam data; and tabulation of beam data for clinical use
  • Develop and document performance specifications, testing, tolerances, and frequency of testing for all therapy equipment.
  • Conduct calibration and safety survey of imaging and radiation therapy equipment as assigned.
  • Maintain a comprehensive quality assurance program that ensures patients are provided tumor localization, radiation treatment, and dose distributions as prescribed which includes assurance of the accuracy of treatment unit parameters.
Training Responsibilities
  • Participate in physics, clinical and basic research as required.
  • Teach and train future medical dosimetrists and AOS physicists.

Education & Work Experience:

  • M.Sc. in Radiological/Medical physics.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in Medical Physics at an oncology center.
