Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Medical Physicist to provide professional medical physics support within the Radiation Oncology service. The role works with Radiation Oncologists and Dosimetrists to ensure accurate delivery of treatment prescriptions and to oversee QA, safety, and education programs.

The candidate should hold an M.S. in Physics with at least 2 years in Medical Physics and ABR/ABMP certification or eligibility, with strong communication and teamwork skills and solid

  • Computer software and network experience desirable.

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, methods, procedures, and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Chief Medical Physicist in provision of medical physics services and assumes responsibility for the service in the Chief Physicist’s absence.
  • Performs routine and periodic output measurements and quality assurance tests.
  • Ensures all physics data is accurate and computation methods are precise and will supervise dosimetry and treatment planning personnel.
  • Assists in the development of recommendations regarding purchase of radiation equipment and related construction projects.
  • Advises and consults with physicians in applications of radiation in diagnosis, therapy, treatment planning with externally delivered radiation as well as use of internally implanted radioactive sources; complete subject of x-ray equipment, calibration, and dosimetry, medical uses of ultra sound and infrared.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and oversight of integrated radiation therapy quality control and radiation safety programs.
  • Advises and consults with physicians and professional staff concerning issues involving individual patients, procedures, and techniques.
  • Participates in supporting programs to ensure effective and safe use of radiation and radionuclides including quality assurance and education activities.
  • Assists in development of project budgets and projections.
  • Maintains current medical physics knowledge through contact with peers, attendance at professional meetings and continuing education activities.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Physicist, provides professional medical physics for the Radiation Oncology service. Collaborates with the Radiation Oncologist and Dosimetrist staff to assure the accurate delivery of all aspects of radiation oncology treatment prescription. Acts as an educational resource for the use of radiation in the clinical environment. Participates in and directs quality assurance, quality control, and radiation safety activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

In depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, methods, procedures, and techniques.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Busy patient care environment with risk of exposure to radiation.

  2. Use of computer terminal, mouse manipulation and visual concentration at video display up to 50% of the time.

  3. Requires transport, setup and operation of specialized testing equipment.

  4. Some risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials .

Pay Range:

$70.92 - $96.15

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
