Job summary

OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join its oncology care team. The APP will assess, diagnose, and intervene in patient care, order tests, and monitor treatment responses within Illinois licensure.

The role involves collaboration with physicians, participation in rounds, tumor boards, and cancer clinics. Required IL NP/PA license, DEA license for narcotics prescribing, BLS/ACLS certifications, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Licensed to provide APN or PA services in Illinois; nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
  • Licensed by the DEA and Illinois for prescribing narcotics.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment with patient-centered focus.
  • Oncology experience and Oncology Nursing Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Overview:
  • The Advanced Practice Provider, Oncology (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is an integral member of the oncology care team, responsible for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to a diverse population of patients seeking oncology services.
  • The APP performs a variety of functions including assessment, diagnosis, and intervention within their scope of practice.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests and imaging results.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of patients’ response to treatment and adjusts care plans as indicated.
  • Educates patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment options, side effects, and supportive care.
  • Participates in clinical rounds, tumor boards, and interdisciplinary care conferences.
  • Involved in lung cancer screening program, lung cancer clinic, and rapid diagnostic clinic.
  • Performs ongoing communication and works to promote quality of care through collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other care team members, patients and families.
  • Demonstrates service excellence and accountability through recognizing the direct relationship between cost-effective and efficient provision of care and services including the impact of access to care.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987
  • Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hospital environment while maintaining patient-centered focus.
  • Oncology Experience and an Oncology Nursing Certification are preferred.

  • Clinical base hourly pay range for this position: $60.39-$68.10. This is a salaried position.

    Range shown should be used as an estimate and can be impacted by many factors including but not limited to the critical need of the position, overall experience and qualifications, community need, and other considerations. Additional compensation components may be applicable such as bonuses or incentives which may or may not be based on metric achievement.

  • The Cancer Institute welcomed our first patient in February 2024. We estimate that this 200,000 square foot modern building will serve 3,700 cancer patients annually.
