Job summary

Essentia Health’s St. Marys Medical Center in Duluth seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician for the Send Out Department.

The role involves specimen processing, testing coordination, result handling, and performing tests across complexity levels per CLIA for patients of all ages. The ideal candidate holds an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or meets CLIA guidelines, with ASCP (or equivalent) certification within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or meets CLIA guidelines for the complexity of laboratory testing for alternative route.
• Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician through the ASCP or equivalent within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Support specimen processing, testing coordination, result handling in the Send Out Department.
• Perform and report tests of all complexity levels per CLIA for patients of all ages.
• Contribute to Quality Assurance, Quality Control Monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Phlebotomy and customer service duties as needed.

Job Description

Hours: Day shift with the exception of afternoon/evenings on weekends and holiday rotations. This MLT will support specimen processing, testing coordination, result handling, and other technically complex responsibilities in the Send Out Department. Other duties can include performing and report tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA, on patients of all ages to assist with the routine screening, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and injuries. Will also exhibit problem solving skills of a complex nature, participate in Quality Assurance, Quality Control Monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, specimen processing, phlebotomy, along with customer service.

Education Qualifications

Graduate of an associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or meets Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines for the complexity of laboratory testing for alternative route

Licensure/Certification Qualifications

Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent; within one year of hire
