Job summary

Medina Healthcare System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to collaborate with the Laboratory team and perform specimen processing and testing, including moderate to high complexity analyses, to support diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires interpreting physician orders, obtaining specimens, drawing blood aseptically, and delivering accurate results and timely data to physicians. Strong teamwork and data interpretation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited program.
• MLT certification (ASCP or AMT).
• Ability to manage high-lab-volume periods.
• Proficiency in medical terminology.
• Experience with electronic medical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Interpret physician orders and secure requisitions before testing.
• Obtain correct specimen type and quantity.
• Draw blood aseptically.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids.
• Conduct blood counts and tests for transfusion purposes.
• Document all requests and results accurately and timely.
• Notify physician of abnormal results.
• Maintain daily QC and cleaning per guidelines.

SummaryMedical Laboratory Technician, in collaboration with the Laboratory team, performs specimen processing and testing independently to include moderate and high complexity testing in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease by performing the following duties.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInterprets physician's orders and secures a requisition before performing test.Obtains the correct amount and type of specimen.Draws blood observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, under supervision of medical technologist.Performs blood counts.Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes.Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens.Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner.Informs Physicians of lab results.Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately.Recognizes abnormalities and notifies physician immediately.Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines.Orders and stocks supplies as needed.Other duties as assigned.Key Success FactorsKnowledge of laboratory technical skills and medical terminology.General computer skills, including but not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.Verbal and written communication skills.Ability to problem solve.Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.Customer service skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Education and/or ExperienceGraduate of an accredited Associate’s degree program.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMedical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP). or American Medical Technologist (AMT) certification required.Other Skills and AbilitiesAble to manage periods of high laboratory volume.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
