US-Department-of-Veterans-Affair is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform the full range of laboratory duties with minimal supervision, ensuring accuracy and quality of patient care. Responsibilities include pre-analytic instructions, operating POC instrumentation, and specimen processing.
Qualifications emphasize knowledge of MLT principles, quality control, instrumentation troubleshooting, and effective teamwork within a laboratory setting.
MLTs use independent judgment to perform full range of duties in the laboratory. MLTs perform day-to-day operations with minimal technical supervision while ensuring testing accuracy and quality of proper patient care. Duties include providing pre-analytic instructions to patients, VA staff, and external entities; operating and maintaining Point of Care (POC) instrumentation; performing specimen processing, waived testing; evaluating and reporting laboratory results. Experience: None beyond the basic requirements.
GS-06:
Experience: In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
Preferred Experience: Clinical laboratory experience including phlebotomy, specimen processing and point of care testing. Phlebotomy and MLT (ASCP and/or AMT) preferred

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-5 to GS-6.
