Job summary

Iredell Health System in North Carolina is seeking a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician to perform a variety of laboratory tests across Blood Bank, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology and Chemistry. You will apply clinical laboratory theory, review quality control data, and ensure reliable results to aid clinicians.

The role requires movement and lifting up to 30 pounds; shift is Monday to Friday, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM with call every 4th weekend.

Qualifications

• Medical Technologist: at least sixty semester hours of college with training in a certified Medical Technology program.
• Must be registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT.
• Medical Laboratory Technician: associate’s degree and ASCP/AMT registration or eligibility.
• Must have full range of body motion and lift up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of laboratory tests across Blood Bank, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology and Chemistry.
• Apply theory and evaluate quality control data to produce reliable results that aid diagnosis and treatment.

Job description

Performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which involve numerous steps and techniques, and require use of professional judgment. Tests are performed in Blood Bank, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Chemistry. Professional application of the theories and techniques of clinical laboratory science (including evaluation of quality control data) are used to produce reliable test results which aid the clinician in diagnosis and treatment. Has full access to patient health information. May have access to medication storage areas (excluding controlled substances) as related to job responsibilities.

Shift

Shift: M-F, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, call every 4th weekend

Requirements

• Medical Technologist: Must have at least sixty semester hours of college with training in a certified Medical Technology training program. Must be currently registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT.
• Medical Laboratory Technician: Must have an associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician and be registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT.
• Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
