Job summary

Mercy Health is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician I for the Core Laboratory at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. You will perform routine tests on blood and tissue specimens and provide physicians with accurate results while ensuring patient safety and privacy.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Medical Lab Technology completed at an accredited program.
• 60 semester hours including chemistry and biology completed.
• Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course in the last ten years.
• MLT certification or eligible; ASCP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens accurately and timely.
• Assesses specimen acceptability via visual checks and result review.
• Recognizes factors affecting measurements and acts per protocol.
• Conducts quality control and ensures results meet established ranges.
• Maintains a safe, clean work environment and troubleshoots equipment.

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) is responsible for performing the routine test on blood, tissues, and other body specimens, as well as providing physicians with quality results using a variety of clinical laboratory equipment. The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT) must have a total understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques necessary to guarantee complete patient safety and anonymity.

Essential Functions

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures
• Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/ unusual results
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results by taking the appropriate action according to protocols
• Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures following hospital policies, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment
• Other duties as assigned

Education

• Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology
• Completed 60 semester hours (including six hours of chemistry and six of biology) of academic credit from a college or university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency and have completed a Medical Lab Technician Program
• Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years

Certifications

• MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)

Experience

Two years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred)

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-pasted environment
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
