WellSpan Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician - Lab Support for rotating shifts in Waynesboro, PA. This part-time role involves a variety of technical and general duties across the laboratory departments.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, processing and testing under supervision, operating instruments, performing quality checks, and maintaining records. Strong communication and computer skills are essential for accurate data entry and reporting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • College diploma with field indicated on the diploma within 6 months of hire required or
  • College transcript within 6 months of hire required.
  • Associates degree completion of MLT program preferred.

  • Operates laboratory instruments and records results.
  • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.
  • Identifies types of bacterial colonies and determines media requirements and biochemical reactions.
  • May group or type blood and determine donor compatibility.
  • Counts and analyzes blood and body fluids; performs coagulation testing.
  • Performs chemical and/or immunological tests to identify substances.
  • Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.

Job Description

Shift: Various hours and shifts, mostly spanning from 6 am to 11 pm.
Rotating weekends and holidays.

General Summary

Performs a variety of technical and general duties. Functions in one or more laboratory division

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Performs routine and/or specialized specimen collection, processing and testing procedures with supervision as appropriate.
  • Performs a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision; records results. May operate a variety of laboratory instruments.
  • Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.
  • Makes periodic observations of materials derived from cultures and identifies types of bacterial colonies found by determination of cultural requirements and biochemical reactions in chemically-defined media.
  • May group or type blood of donors and recipients. May determine compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipient.
  • Counts, describes morphology of, and performs studies on blood and other body fluid cells. Performs coagulation testing.
  • May perform chemical and/or immunological tests to identify and/or quantitate substances found in blood and other body fluids.
  • Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • High School Diploma or GED Required and
  • College Diploma As part of CAP requirements, a college diploma is required provided the field of study is indicated on the diploma within 6 months of hire. Required or
  • College Transcript Within 6 months of hire. Required
  • Associates Degree Completion of MLT program. Preferred
Work Experience
