Job summary

CHRISTUS Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician II to perform complex clinical testing across general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology sections. The role includes QC, proficiency testing, and preventative maintenance of equipment, with duties in sample collection and result reporting.

Requires accredited laboratory education (or military training) and licensure; six months of clinic rotation or equivalent experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology per CLIA 42CFR493.1489 requirements.
• 60 semester hours with required science/chemistry/biology coursework or equivalent.
• Laboratory training from ABHES/NAACLS approved programs or equivalent, or three months of documented high-complexity testing training.

Responsibilities

• Specimen collection via venipuncture and/or fingerstick with proper labeling and handling.
• Perform and document tests across Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, ER Stat Lab, and Microbiology.
• Adhere to QC procedures and CLIA/CAP/JCAHO guidelines; document performance improvement indicators.
• Execute preventative maintenance and troubleshoot equipment; manage supplies and reagents.
• Follow safety, infection control, and hazardous materials protocols; use LIS/HIS systems for results and charges.
• Assist in training new associates and students in laboratory practices.
