Job Summary

Performs laboratory tests of moderate and high complexity, prepares records of test results, and maintains instruments, equipment, and supplies.

• Prepares and calibrates test instruments and equipment to ensure test accuracy.
• Prepares and collects specimens, performing laboratory tests as defined in the laboratory procedures manual.
• Discusses unexpected or unreasonable test results with supervisor.
• Reports test results and data by entering information into the computer database.
• Prepares, distributes, and files forms and reports.
• Cleans instruments and equipment after each test.
• Performs maintenance and minor repairs on instruments and equipment.
• Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Assists newly assigned staff in learning laboratory procedures.
• Performs other related duties as directed.

Shift Details

Variable 8-hour shifts between evening and nights, Monday to Friday, with weekend rotations as needed.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum two (2) years of current experience in a clinical laboratory or related field required. Current KP Coalition employees are exempt.

Education:

• Associate degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences, or medical laboratory technology, or completion of an official U.S. military medical laboratory training course of at least 50 weeks with the military occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician). Proper documentation (diplomas, transcripts, or international equivalency reports) is required.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Medical Technologist Certificate from ASCP, or Medical Lab Scientist Certificate from AAB, or Medical Lab Scientist Certificate from AMT, or Medical Lab Technician Certificate from AMT, or equivalent certifications as listed.
