Job summary

Texas Oncology in Flower Mound is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. This float role will require travel to our Castle Hills location and will support multiple sites. Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.

to 5 p.m. The MLT will perform specimen analysis, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, and conduct quality control procedures. The position also involves phlebotomy, processing specimens, and reporting results in a timely, accurate manner while following

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
  • State license if required by state laws.
  • Certification preferred (AMT/ASCP) but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

Texas Oncologyis looking for aMedical Laboratory Technician to join our team!This position will support the Flower Mound location. This position is a FLOAT position and will require travel to our Castle Hills location as well. This is a Full Time position, typical hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30a-5pm.

What does MLT position do?(including but not limited to)

The Medical Lab Technician Is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests. Initiates and follows quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. Performs specimen collection andassistswith patient flow as needed. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program,to includethe Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities(including but not limited to)

  • Assistswith performing phlebotomy and collectingappropriate specimensfrom patients as ordered. Assures pre-authorization and completesappropriate consentforms (ABN) prior to collection of limited coverage tests.
  • Assistswith special procedures as needed (i.e.bone marrows in the room).
  • Follows thelaboratory*sprocedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, andmaintainingrecords of patient results. Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed inhouse. Processes incoming orders for lab testing including reference laboratory specimens.
  • Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry,Hematologyand Immunology specimens.
  • Maintains andoperatesall laboratory equipment. Performs daily,weeklyand monthly instrument maintenance asindicated.
  • Adheres to the laboratory*s quality control policies anddocumentsall QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance. Records proper lot numbers of all controls,calibratorsand reagents.
  • Participates inproficiencytesting by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.
  • Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential.
  • Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment
  • Recordsresultson appropriateworksheetand computersystemandperformsfile maintenance. Processes specimens for send-out testing.
  • Followsthe laboratory*s policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory*sestablishedacceptable levels of performance.Identifiesproblems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or notifies supervisor. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory*s established performance specifications.
  • Maintains proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipmentrecordsand checklists. Verifies all critical results and documents withaccuratefollow-up.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures that all supplies areviablebeforeusingin patient testing. Prepares reagents,stainsand other chemical solutions as needed.Restocksthe laboratory area as needed.
  • Processes in-house and in-coming results for charting.
  • Chartspatient results in a timely manner as needed.
  • Properlyidentifyand band patients for blood product transfusion. Processes properly labeled specimens according to localbloodbankpolicy.
  • Adheres to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.
  • Complies withapplicable regulatory agency standards.
  • Properlydisposesof hazardous materials.
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Maintainsconfidentiallyof all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Performs CLIA classified Waived and Moderately complexity testing.
  • May be under the supervision of a Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

Qualifications

The candidate for this position must meet the following qualifications:

Level 1

  • Associates degree in medical technologyor laboratory scienceor related science field.
  • Current state license ifrequired.
  • AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred but notrequired.
  • Positionisentry level and requires no experience.

Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 qualifications)

  • Position requires three years of experience.

Level Sr (in addition to level 1 and 2 qualifications)

  • Position requires five years of experience.
