Macon County General Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform a range of hematologic, chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic and microbiologic tests with accuracy and speed. Reports to (Title): Laboratory Manager
Performs hematologic, chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic and microbiologic testing in a prompt and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies. May help to set up new methodologies, develop procedural protocols, and train lab personnel in procedures and the use of instrumentation. Participates in PI activities and supports the hospital in meeting JCAHO and C.A.P. accreditation standards. Helps other departments as assigned or needed on a “PRN” basis. Responsible to actively participate in quality assurance/performance improvement activities to ensure processes meet intended goals/outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement, and be accountable for the quality of patient care provided in their respective area.

Involves guidance and direction by technologist, supervisor, and/or department director. The MLT is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Requires corrected hearing and vision within functional ranges. Requires manual dexterity to operate equipment and computers. Requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, and reaching. Occasionally may require olfactory or color discrimination.
This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. PPE includes, but is not limited to, gloves, masks, and safety glasses.
