Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team. You will perform routine to advanced lab procedures across body fluids, maintain competencies, and ensure accurate results while following safety and infection control policies.

• Must possess MLT certification, or be eligible to sit for MLT exam. ASCP certification within 180 days of hire.
• Preferred: 1 year clinical laboratory experience.

• Maintain required competencies in all departments assigned and ensure accuracy of results.
• Observe patient safety and infection control policies and procedures.
• Perform quality control and CAP proficiency testing.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and medical records to ensure continuity of patient care.
• Uphold professional standards and contribute to performance improvement on the unit.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our laboratory team who will foster an environment of teamwork, quality and safety for our patients. What You Will Do In This Role:

1. 1. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Lab Technologist performs routine, complex or specialized bacteriological, hematological, chemical, immunological, serological and immunoassay procedures on body fluids.
2. 2. Requires no supervision for processing specimens, performing testing, or reporting results. No review of patient results is required prior to reporting.
3. 3. Maintains required competencies in all departments assigned.
4. 4. Demonstrates accuracy for all testing performed.
5. 5. Observes patient safety, risk management and infection control policies and procedures
6. 6. Performs related quality control and CAP required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure.
7. 7. Fulfills the duty and responsibility to maintain competence and to continue personal and professional growth.
8. 8. Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
9. 9. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste (of time and supplies) and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care. To actively market services to increase volume and awareness.
10. 10. Demonstrates the ability to be an advocate for and strive to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient.
11. 11. Interactions with patients and colleagues demonstrate compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status or cultural beliefs.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

Education required and/or preferred:

REQUIRED: Associates Degreed in Medical Technology or related field

Licensure/Certification

REQUIRED: Must possess MLT or equivalent certification, or be currently eligible to sit for MLT or equivalent certification exam. Certification as MLT (ASCP) or equivalent is required within 180 days of hire.

Experience required or preferred:

PREFERRED: General one year clinical laboratory experience or equivalent clinical lab training.
