Job summary

University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus in Baltimore is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS I) for new graduates with an Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Military Laboratory Technician program with clinical experience.

Under direct supervision, you will perform waived, moderate and high complexity testing, maintain records, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team. A sign-on bonus is offered and ASCP or equivalent licensure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field required.
• Military Laboratory Technician program completion with applicable clinical experience acceptable.
• No experience required; one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• ASCP or equivalent licensure/certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes. Complies with all regulatory guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA) as needed.
• Identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues and takes corrective action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity.
• Reviews and records quality control and determines acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying QA/QC principles daily.
• Responds to clinical and customer concerns, resolves issues confidentially with integrity and discretion.
• Attends mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings specific to department.
• Performs duties as assigned related to the job description.

Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I (MLS I) role is for new graduates with an Associate degree in MLT or related field or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program with applicable clinical experience.

Under direct supervision, performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing. Maintains proper records and utilizes resources to generate acceptable test results. Functions effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs waived, moderate and high complexity testing using manual and automated processes. Complies with all regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.) and addresses concerns as needed.
• Identifies and resolves analytical problems, troubleshoots equipment issues and takes corrective action in evaluating testing procedures, patient results and specimen integrity; seeks guidance when necessary.
• Reviews and records quality control and determines the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument function by applying the principles of QA/QC daily.

Education & Experience - Required

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences or related field required or completion of Military Laboratory Technician program.

Education & Experience - Preferred

• No experience required; one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certifications: ASCP or equivalent preferred.
