Job summary

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System’s Microbiology department seeks a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform essential lab tests and ensure accurate data for patient care.

Under the supervision of the Technical Supervisor and Shift Supervisor, the MLS will follow all hospital policies and may assume charge duties when the Supervisor is absent, with licensure pursued promptly if not yet obtained.

Qualifications

• Must have Bachelor's degree in health science or medical laboratory science, or five years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
• Must obtain MLS license under Florida Statute 61F-5 within 90 days of hire; limited scope applies until licensure is obtained.

Job Summary

Required Qualifications

• Require a Bachelor’s degree in a health science program or medical laboratory science. A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience can be considered in lieu of required degree. Employees hired prior to 1/1/09 are grandfathered into this position.
• Require current Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) license under Chapter 483, Part IV, Florida Statute: 61F-5; or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire date. Note: Limited scope of practice will be utilized until licensure has been obtained. Limited Scope: Results entry will not be performed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer a minimum of one (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory.
• Prefer excellent communication and listening skills.
• Prefer demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Prefer basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications and office.
• Prefer qualification as an ASCP, AMT, NCA, or an equivalent medical laboratory scientist.

4-10hr shifts, 1500-0130, rotating weekends and holidays
