Job summary

Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a leading healthcare organization in Raleigh, NC, seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join its clinical laboratory team.

The MLS II will perform moderate- and high-complexity testing across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and transfusion services, with opportunities to work independently and across multiple departments. Weekend overnight shift is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Experience as a generalist across multiple disciplines.
• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot testing issues in an overnight environment.
• ASCP certification preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate degree required.

Responsibilities

• Perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing across multiple departments.
• Analyze, verify, and report patient results accurately and efficiently.
• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
• Perform and document quality control procedures.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
• Follow established procedures for specimen processing, testing, and result reporting.
• Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other applicable regulatory standards.

Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a leading healthcare organization in Raleigh, NC that is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) to join its clinical laboratory team.

This opportunity is ideal for a well-rounded laboratory professional with generalist experience who is comfortable working independently across multiple laboratory departments and is looking for a consistent weekend overnight schedule.

Schedule

• Saturday–Monday

• 7:00 PM–7:00 AM

• 36 hours per week

• Weekend overnight schedule

Position Overview

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II will perform moderate- and high-complexity testing across multiple areas of the clinical laboratory. This position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast-paced hospital laboratory environment.

The MLS II will perform testing in areas such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and/or transfusion services, depending on departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing across multiple departments

• Analyze, verify, and report patient results accurately and efficiently

• Perform testing in areas such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank

• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation

• Perform and document quality control procedures

• Recognize and troubleshoot abnormal or questionable results

• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation

• Follow established procedures for specimen processing, testing, and result reporting

• Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other applicable regulatory standards

• Assist with maintaining adequate laboratory supplies and inventory

• Participate in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives

• Assist with training and mentoring laboratory staff and students as needed

• Maintain a strong focus on patient safety, specimen integrity, and quality patient care

• Work effectively and independently during overnight hours

Qualifications

Education

One of the following is required:

• Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science field

• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field preferred

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred

• Previous experience working as a generalist in a hospital or clinical laboratory

• Experience across multiple laboratory disciplines strongly preferred

• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot testing issues in an overnight environment

Certification

Preferred certifications include:

• ASCP

• Equivalent nationally recognized laboratory certification
