Responsibilities
- Perform routine tasks involving specimen processing and preparation of specimens for analysis.
- Produce reports for quality monitoring, tracking turnaround times and specimens; take action on data to prevent errors and preserve specimen integrity.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain laboratories, classrooms, and equipment.
- Provide training and guidance to lower level employees.
- Operate equipment needed to perform duties, including centrifuges, tube systems, automation lines, monitoring systems for refrigerators and freezers, and related computer programs; courier duties only if specifically trained.
- Perform equipment maintenance and basic service; document maintenance and temperature checks; maintain accurate records of duties; assist with CAP accreditation as requested; follow safety guidelines in operation of equipment.
- Cleans laboratory facilities, breaks down and stores supplies, maintains department supply inventory, and sources supplies for multiple sites.
- Produce daily and periodic reports from Epic and other software systems; analyze findings, make adjustments, investigate i-care reports as assigned; maintain departmental records to comply with regulatory requirements.
- Promote workplace safety, environmental and infection control practices; train and mentor staff and students.

Qualifications
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of procedures, protocols, preparation and storage techniques within the specimen processing area; knowledge of cleaning and maintenance specifications for laboratory and/or medical equipment; ability to set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain standard laboratory equipment; ability to promote quality, safety, and infection control.
- Ability to provide guidance and instruction in processing and basic laboratory equipment; proficiency with necessary computer functionality.
Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires frequent exposure to high noise levels and exposure to heat and cold; occasional handling of potentially dangerous equipment; constant exposure to biohazards (risk of radiation exposure, blood-borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals); occasional extended or unscheduled hours; occasional travel to offsite locations; environmental conditions may require handling significant volume changes; physical demands include occasional bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, crawling, crouching, driving (if trained), kneeling, reaching, occasional twisting, frequent sitting, constant standing, and constant walking.
