The technician will ensure accurate specimen labeling, proper collection techniques, and timely delivery to testing areas, while maintaining patient confidentiality

Qualifications

• Six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Education options: associate degree with a year-long certified laboratory assistant training; or 1 year of chemistry/biological sciences plus training; or 2 years of related study with direct relevance to the position.

Responsibilities

• Accession and process laboratory specimens in the clinical laboratory.
• Perform phlebotomy with proper disinfection and technique.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers before collection.
• Label specimens clearly and initials in front of the patient.
• Deliver specimens to the appropriate testing area promptly.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and handle specimens with care.
• Follow laboratory safety and infection control policies; dispose of bio-hazardous materials properly.
• Monitor and maintain equipment and the lab environment (temperatures, freezers, incubators).
• Assist in training newly hired personnel, students, and others in venipuncture, sample processing, and related tasks.
