Job summary

Advocate Health's Winston-Salem Reference Lab Testing department seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist for full-time days. The role focuses on accurate, timely test results within QC/QA standards and strict safety practices in a busy reference laboratory.

Primarily 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with weekends/holidays as needed; 40 hours weekly; ASCP certification preferred and an Associate's degree preferred. Benefits eligible with competitive pay.

• Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.

Education & Experience:

How You'll Impact Patient Care:

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Ensures accuracy and timeliness of patient laboratory test results.
• Ensures quality of test results by following defined Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) procedures.
• Ensures safety and compliance:
• Maintains appropriate education to accomplish work objectives and maintain current certifications as applicable.
• Ensure productive and efficient operations of the section and department.
• Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.

Work Environment:

• Exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens or patients.
• Exposure to risk of blood borne/airborne diseases.
• Possible exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens.

• Subject to injury from sharps.
• Subject to many interruptions and stressful situations.
• Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection).
• Exposure to hazards for electrical/mechanical/power equipment.
• May require judgment/action which could result in death of patient.
• Occasionally subject to irregular hours.
• Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
