Medical Lab Technician (MLT) / Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital

Join Roper St. Francis Healthcare as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) / Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital.

Position Details:

  • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 32
  • Work Shift: Evenings/Nights, 2:30pm-11:00pm, Rotating Weekends
  • Location: Charleston, SC

Compensation: $5,000 Sign-On Bonus

Primary Function

Performs routine and specialized diagnostic procedures requiring technical skill, judgment, and decision-making. Performs phlebotomy, accessioning, and assists the Laboratory Supervisor with technical and administrative tasks.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Technical Procedures: Conduct testing, quality control, and proficiency testing to ensure accurate, timely, and appropriate results. Verify specimen integrity, evaluate data, document actions, and assist in policy updates.
  2. Instrumentation: Operate laboratory instruments, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and document QC results. Understand instrument mechanics and seek help when needed.
  3. Information Handling: Use Cerner/STAR systems for test ordering, results review, and documentation. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  4. Communication/Customer Service: Communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and patients. Respond promptly and professionally, maintaining good rapport.
  5. Compliance/Safety: Follow policies, report safety issues, participate in education, and contribute to performance improvement goals.
Licensing and Certification
  • ASCP, ASCPI, NCA, or AMT registration as a MT, MLS, or IMLS.
Education Requirements
  • B.S. in Medical Technology or related degree with clinical training. Alternative route options available for certification.
Work Experience

Not required.

Patient Population

Serves all age groups, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles, from neonates to geriatrics.

Working Conditions

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, exposure to biohazards, and a fast-paced environment. May require working weekends or holidays.
