Job summary

MUSC Health in Summerville, SC is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to support high quality testing in a clinical lab. This PRN role prepares specimens, runs routine tests, and participates in QC and instrument maintenance.

You will communicate results to clinical staff and patients as needed, assist training, and engage in continuing education. Career ladder opportunities exist with required certifications and increasing responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; ASCP BOC certification or equivalent.
• No prior experience required for MLT I; one year experience for II/III preferred (per ladder).
• Certification must be obtained within first year if not already certified.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine laboratory tests.

Education: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Experience: None. Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent. If not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Medical Laboratory Technician II Minimum Requirements:

Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Experience: At least one year of clinical experience. Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent.

NOTE: This is a Career Ladder Position. Internal candidates are required to submit and meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements. External candidates are required to complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within 90 days in position.

Medical Laboratory Technician III Minimum Requirements

Education: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Experience: At least three years of clinical experience. Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent.

NOTE: This is a Career Ladder Position. Internal candidates are required to submit and meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements. External candidates are required to complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within 6 months in position.

Medical Technologist I Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Science degree In Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline. Experience: None. Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification preferred at the time of hire, however, if not certified, certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Medical Technologist II Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor of Science degree In Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline required. Experience: At least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory required.
