Medical Lab Technician needed for busy outpatient multi-specialty medical practice in Myrtle Beach. MLT certification is required. Must have excellent computer and customer service skills. Hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 am - 4:30 pm and Fridays 7:00 am - 11:00 am. No nights or weekends! GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for operation of laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, immunology and Point of Care testing. May perform phlebotomy and drug screens.
Reports test results including documentation following clinic protocols drawing special alerts to physicians and/or nurses on "panic value" results.
Ensures quality control in collecting specimens. Responsible to include specimen integrity comments on reports.
Maintains equipment by performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting procedures. Record all maintenance and troubleshooting records.
Identifies and labels patient specimens correctly.
Enters and retrieves patient data and laboratory requests into/from various laboratory information systems.
Maintains patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPPA protocols.
Reviews all reports for completeness of comments, clerical errors and results prior to reporting final results.
Reviews all work performed by Laboratory Assistant
Maintains stat turn-around-time within acceptable limits
Complies and promotes all policies and OSHA regulations related to Safety, cleanliness, infection control.
Maintains and resolves Flex eSuite Pending Log.
Communicates specimen, instrument and computer issues to Lab Director, including specimen rejections, instrument downtime and computer malfunctions.
EDUCATION: High school diploma; successful completion of MT, MLT or CLA course of study.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years laboratory experience, preferably in clinic setting.
REQUIREMENTS: ASCP, NCA, AMT certification.
Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications, calibration and quality control of all testing performed.
Knowledge of how to use/maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
Knowledge of safety, infection control policies and regulations.
Knowledge of use of various laboratory information systems.
SKILLS:
Skill in following appropriate testing procedures.
Skill in proper equipment use, preventive maintenance and repair.
Skill in appropriate quality control and confidentiality procedures.
Skill in using various laboratory information systems.
ABILITIES:
Ability to exercise independent judgment/decision-making and discretion in reporting/distributing results.
Ability to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families and staff.
Ability to organize effectively and work quickly with high level of accuracy.
Ability to make basic troubleshooting decisions.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs other duties as assigned
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working environment is primarily a laboratory setting. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, fumes, hazardous materials, noise.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Varied activity includes standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, lifting and stooping. Must be able to lift, carry or push 50 pounds. Require eye-hand coordination. Occasional stress from workload.
