Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a qualifying science meets CLIA requirements.
• 1-2 years hospital lab experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification is required.

• Generalist lab experience including Blood Bank.
• Blood Bank experience is required.
• Cerner PathNet LIS experience is preferred.

Job Title: Medical Lab Scientist I

Schedule: Week 1: Thursday, Friday, Saturday | Week 2: Sunday, Thursday, Friday

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Perform generalist testing across Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Blood Bank, and limited Microbiology.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents and quality control materials.
• Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with specimen processing when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Work independently after completion of training in a small critical access hospital laboratory.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or another qualifying science degree that meets applicable CLIA requirements.
• Minimum 1-2 years of hospital laboratory experience required.
• ASCP or AMT certification is required.
• Must meet applicable CLIA standards for laboratory testing personnel.
• Generalist laboratory experience, including Blood Bank, is required.
• Blood Bank experience is required.
• Experience with Cerner PathNet Laboratory Information System (LIS) is preferred.
• Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
• Ability to work independently without immediate onsite supervision after training.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers and laboratory documentation systems.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of covering a hospital laboratory.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
