Job summary

Olathe Medical Services, Inc. is seeking a Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) to perform a range of hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, serology, coagulation and phlebotomy on clinic specimens. The role supports high-quality patient care in the Olathe Hospital lab.

The candidate should have ASCP/NCA/AMT certification options, with a Bachelor’s or an appropriate HEW/Military training background and a minimum of 1 year hospital lab experience if uncertified. Overnight rotation will apply.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree and certification requirements (ASCP/NCA/AMT).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent to qualify for certification with ASCP/NCA/AMT.
  • HEW-approved Medical Technology program or US Military Lab training with hospital lab experience required ( uncertified ).
  • 1+ year experience in clinical laboratory if not holding a Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Laboratory principles and follows approved test procedures.
  • Works independently to maximize department efficiency and meets turnaround time expectations.
  • Ensures specimen integrity through proper handling, processing and storage.
  • Performs instrument startup, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting with proper documentation.
  • Performs quality control and documents results, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Communicates hand-offs to the next shift clearly and promptly.
  • Assists coworkers and participates in training of new laboratory staff and students.
  • Must perform the professional, clinical and technical competencies of the unit.

Position Summary / Career Interest

Performs a variety of laboratory and diagnostic procedures in Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Serology, Coagulation and Phlebotomy on specimens obtained on clinic patients to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. The Medical Technologist (Certified) is expected to support the mission, vision and values of Olathe Medical Services, Inc.Note: Overnight shift 2030-0700, will work 8 shifts then off 6 shifts includes e/o weekend rotation.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Laboratory principles and theory. Follows approved Laboratory test procedures.
  • Works independently, organizing to maximize department efficiency. Completes testing within the Laboratory TAT expectations. Takes appropriate action when necessary.
  • Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to Laboratory test procedures for specimen identification, handling, processing, and storing.
  • Performs instrument start-up, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as required with proper documentation. Takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Performs, evaluates, and documents all required Quality Control. Takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Correctly performs tests, interprets results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits with proper documentation. Takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Answers phone promptly and courteously. Answers pneumatic tube system promptly.
  • Gives accurate and complete hand-off communication to the next shift.
  • Assists all co-workers in all areas as needed.
  • "Assists in the training of new Laboratory employees and students."
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree and educational requirements as required to become certified with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or the American Medical Technologists (AMT). OR
  • Bachelors Degree or educational requirements as needed to become certified with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT). OR
  • Must have completed an HEW approved school of Medical Technology or the successful completion of a United States Military Laboratory training program and a minimum of 10 years of hospital lab experience required without certification.
  • 1 or more years of experience in the clinical laboratory field required without a Bachelor's degree

  • ASCP Specialist Certification (MB, SBB, SC, SH, or SM) within 180 Days OR
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 180 Days OR
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP) within 180 Days OR
  • Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) - NCA within 180 Days OR
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 180 Days OR
  • Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) - HEW within 180 Days OR
  • United States Military Laboratory training program certificate of completion
