Job summary

Essentia Health, Valley City Clinic, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in the general lab. The role includes specimen collection, processing, and abiding by accreditation standards.

Casual/as-needed hours apply with day rotation. The position requires completing an MLA program or internal MLA training within one year, and preferred phlebotomy or ASCP certification.

Qualifications

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or complete internal MLA training within 1 year of hire.
• Phlebotomy or ASCP certification preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture and other specimens (urine, swabs, etc.).
• Perform specimen processing and handling per testing requirements.
• Conduct laboratory testing per accreditation and licensure requirements where applicable.
• Assist in training new employees, students and others as appropriate.
• Follow Essentia Health policies to ensure safety and quality of specimens and equipment.
