Job summary

Care New England seeks a Medical Interpreter to support the Patient Experience team. Under the Director's direction, you will relay medical information between speakers of different languages, ensuring confidentiality, informed consent, and accurate communication of services and procedures.

You will travel between locations to provide interpretation, participate in ongoing education, and act as a linguistic and cultural resource for clinicians and patients within a collaborative hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent with approved certification in medical translation.
  • Proficiency as a medical interpreter in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel between locations without limitations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse patients and families.
  • Ensure accurate communication of outpatient services, hospitalization and ongoing care.
  • Provide interpreter services and convey the exact message, not a summary.
  • Promote patient satisfaction; notify supervisor of any issues affecting patients, providers or staff.
  • Participate in continuing education and competency training.
  • Preserve and protect patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Job Summary

Under the direction of Director of Patient Experience, the incumbent serves as a Medical Interpreter for patients, providers and staff and supports the operation of the department. Relays medical information between speakers of two different languages in compliance with all CNE system and hospital policies and procedures, supporting patient confidentiality, patient dignity and informed consent. Explains hospital resources, clinical procedures, office or clinic protocols,and facilitates verbal communication between clinicians and patients. Serves as acultural and linguistic resource. Performs duties in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Helps to facilitate successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse consumers, patients and their families.
  • Ensures that information pertaining to the patient’s outpatient services, hospitalization, and ongoing care are accurately communicated.
  • Provide interpreter services, and convey the exact message as opposed to summarizing the information in a way that is subjective.
  • Promote customer satisfaction related hospital services; notify Supervisor of any issues that may be problematic for patients, providers or staff.
  • Participate in continuing education programs and competency training to enhance professional role of Medical Interpreter.
  • Preserve and protects patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as needed
Requirements

High School Degree or equivalent with an approved certification in medical translationrequired. Must demonstrate proficiency as a medical interpreter in a healthcare setting. Experience demonstrating high level of interpersonal skills, both oral and written, analytical skills, organizational skills and effectiveness within a teamenvironment. Must possess strong cultural awareness competencies, linguistic and interpreting skills and ethical competency. Experience working in a fast-pacedenvironment preferred. Must be able to travel between locations without limitations.
