Responsibilities

Medical/Hematology Oncologist

This position is for a medical oncologist/hematologist with clinical and research focus on GI oncology who will lead the GI program at the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in medical oncology and have an interest in GI oncology. The physician will be on the faculty of the University of South Alabama at the level matching their background experience. The candidate, with assistance of the USA Health MCI administration, must obtain an Alabama medical license, privileges at local hospitals, and be credentialed with insurance entities. The duties include:

  • Clinics in medical oncology with subspecialty emphasis in GI four days/week. Will be expected to meet productivity and quality metrics.
  • Be committed to providing multi-disciplinary approach to provision of patient care.
  • Participation in on-call both on the University Teaching service and other community hospitals with MCI patients/consults. This will be approximately 1:8 days and weekends.
  • Teaching fellows, residents, medical students as part of the hematology/oncology faculty to include grand rounds and continuity clinics.
  • Developing clinical or translational research interests related to GU oncology.
  • Attending tumor boards with GI oncology patients and eventually establishing a GI oncology tumor board. Also to attend tumor boards for other specialties at USA Health MCI.
  • Performing outreach to community GI surgeons and internists and laypersons in order to develop relationships that will generate referrals. Will work with business development liaison to create a referral strategy.
  • Support the mission of USA Health and USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; other related duties as assigned.

Necessary Special Requirements:

The candidate must have experience with electronic medical records.
