Qualifications

Medical Director Wanted: Veterinary Emergency Clinic (VEC) – Sarasota, FL

Position at Veterinary Emergency Clinic (VEC) – Sarasota. We are looking for a full‑time Medical Director to help drive performance and results while also building a team alongside our Practice Manager.

Key Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • At least 2+ years of clinical, scientific, or industry experience, ideally in a high‑volume environment.
  • Ability to become licensed to practice in the state of Florida.
  • Emergency or urgent‑care veterinarian proficient in receiving and managing ER cases.
  • Experience with point‑of‑care ultrasound, ER/GP surgery, and other ER‑relevant skills (preferred).
  • Prior leadership experience (preferred).
  • Professional and excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, diplomatic attitude.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team in a fast‑paced environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency or urgent care plans and direct the development, implementation, operation, maintenance, and control of essential medical services.
  • Advise on policies and procedures for best‑practice clinical operations and efficient use of staff.
  • Ensure exemplary delivery of all clinical services to achieve optimum client experience without compromising profitability.
  • Develop strategic clinical relationships with the referring veterinary community.
  • Oversee client medical issues.
  • Provide clinical mentoring and coaching; supervise staff and monitor training, continuing education, and development of the clinical team (DVMs & techs).
  • Evaluate performance of technical staff members.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Make recommendations for improving effectiveness of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Define and communicate duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability of subordinates.
  • Monitor all aspects of medical quality and report findings to senior management.
