Job summary

Daymark Health is seeking a Medical Director to lead supportive and palliative care in California. You will oversee the local care team, participate in direct patient care, and help shape Daymark's integrated oncology support program across the state.

You will report to the California Medical Director, Oncology, and collaborate with operations leadership to advance value-based, hybrid care models and partnerships with providers and health plans.

Qualifications

ABOUT THE ROLE

Early, integrated palliative care changes outcomes for people with cancer. Research shows it improves quality of life, reduces symptom burden, and in landmark studies has extended survival. At Daymark, supportive care is not a last step. It's woven into the care model from the start.

As Medical Director you will be the senior clinical leader for supportive and palliative care in your market. You'll lead the local care team, care for patients directly, and help shape how Daymark delivers supportive oncology across California. You will report to the California Medical Director, Oncology, and work closely with local operations leadership.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will lead our care team, uphold clinical policy and quality standards, and will enable Daymark’s clinical program with patients, providers, and health plan partners in California.

• Clinical Leadership in Your Market:
  • You will lead the day-to-day clinical work of the care team in your market, including supervising Nurse Practitioners and nurses. You will be the collaborating physician of record for local Nurse Practitioners, consistent with California requirements, and you'll oversee Supportive Care Physicians as the team grows.
  • You will be the first point of clinical escalation for your market's care team. You'll bring the most complex and high-acuity cases to the California Medical Director, Oncology when oncology expertise is needed.
• You will spend about half your time in direct patient care, delivered through a mix of virtual and in‑person visits. That work covers symptom management, goals‑of‑care conversations, advance care planning, and family meetings. You'll work closely with Daymark's care navigators, behavioral health clinicians, and social resources team to care for the whole person. You'll help patients and families move through transitions in care, including hospice when the time is right. You will also take part in remote supportive oncology on‑call coverage.
• Program Building:
  • You will help design and refine Daymark's supportive care model. That includes criteria for when patients are referred to palliative care, symptom management protocols, and quality measures such as advance care planning completion, symptom burden, hospice use, and acute‑care use at the end of life. You will bring palliative expertise to training and case reviews across the California care team.
• Partnerships:
  • You will build relationships with oncology practices, primary care physicians, hospice and home health agencies, and health plan partners in your market. You'll represent Daymark's supportive care program in clinical case conferences and partner meetings.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• You are a physician (MD or DO) board‑certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or have at least 3 years of practice in palliative and supportive care, with primary board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, oncology, or a related specialty. You hold an active, unrestricted California medical license or are willing to obtain one.
• You have experience in palliative and supportive care practice after fellowship, ideally with meaningful oncology patient populations, and experience leading or supervising clinical teams. Experience in community‑based, home‑based, or outpatient palliative care is a strong plus.
• You are excited about value‑based and home‑based models of care and want to help build supportive oncology from the ground up. You're a strong communicator with patients, families, colleagues, and external partners, and you use data to improve care.
• You thrive in a fast‑paced environment and are energized by building and iterating on new clinical programs and processes. You are comfortable with technology, able to learn new systems and tools, and you think creatively about ways to leverage technology to improve care.

Additional Information:

The expected compensation for this role is $250,000 to $350,000 annually, depending on location & experience.
