Position Overview

Mount Yonah Animal Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia is eagerly seeking a Veterinary Medical Director to join our team! As the Veterinary Medical Director, you will play a vital role in leading our veterinary team and ensuring the delivery of top‑notch medical care to our patients. You will oversee all medical aspects of our practice, providing leadership, guidance, and expertise to our dedicated team of veterinary professionals.

The MD is responsible for strong leadership, managing and mentoring associate veterinarians, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining teamwork and high‑quality care. The MD also serves as a staff veterinarian and shares responsibility for the financial health of the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high quality of progressive veterinary care
    • Oversee and give directives regarding medical standards and quality of care
    • Set policies for the practice of medicine
    • Work toward making various services work as one team
    • Recommend additions to the hospital inventory
    • Budget for new equipment and provide cost estimates and ROI
    • See patients and handle clinical practice
    • Ensure positive communication with clients and between doctors, including proper transfer of patient care responsibilities
    • Review patient records for completeness, accuracy, and use them to promote medical excellence
    • Manage controlled drugs appropriately
    • Review and approve requests for alternative drugs and supplies
    • Conduct regular doctor meetings
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager
  • Handle patient care problems, client complaints, and referral partner issues
  • Manage veterinary, client, and board complaints and recommend resolutions
  • Develop medical policies
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with State Veterinary Medical Practice Act, OSHA, and AAHA standards
  • Monitor DVM performance, provide coaching when appropriate
  • Serve as mentor and role model for all staff veterinarians
  • Lead candidate interviews of potential DVMs
  • Identify new service opportunities that do not currently exist
  • Hold ownership of revenue and success, monitor KPIs, and work with Hospital Manager to achieve positive results
  • Help identify and plan for upcoming challenges and temporary solutions (locum)
Qualifications (Required)
  • Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
  • Current State Veterinary License
  • DEA registration obtained and maintained
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a veterinary practice
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
  • Excellent surgical and dental skills
  • Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality care
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all staff members
  • Client communication skills, including eliciting information, establishing rapport, and offering explanations to pet owners
  • Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally
  • Perform moderately physically demanding work periodically
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
