Job summary

Solesis is seeking a Medical Component Finishing (MCF) Operator to support preparing medical components for final inspection and packaging in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The role involves inspecting fabric and components, recording test results, and using various tools such as microscopes, optical comparators, and SEM. Cross-training in multiple MCF areas is possible to optimize yields and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 0–1 year related experience.
  • Basic understanding of good manufacturing practices and working within regulated industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to get along with others and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and measures product, visually or with microscopes, recording fabric characterization such as Ends per Inch (EPI), Pics per Inch (PPI), Courses per Inch (CPI), width, diameter, thickness.
  • Inspects product for defects and contamination according to WI, Visual Inspection Criteria, SOPs, and internal specs.
  • Records and communicates test results manually and/or electronically.
  • Performs data collection to identify trends for yield improvement.
  • Enters inspection and testing results into tracking databases.
  • Uses testing equipment including optical comparator, hot knife, microscopes, and SEM.
  • Packs product for transfer to final inspection and packaging.
  • Scours (washes) product to remove contamination and spin finishes raw materials.
  • Heat sets products according to specification to maintain final form.
  • Cuts product to specification manually or with laser.
  • Performs sewing, skeining, coiling, kitting, and heat pressing as needed.
  • Enters information and uses ERP system to report quantities and time spent on jobs.

Job description

The Medical Component Finishing (MCF) Operator performs a variety of different functions in support of preparing medical components for final inspection and packaging. The MCF Operator can be assigned duties such as scouring, heating setting, laser cutting, measuring, cutting and/or inspecting. This position may focus on one area of the MCF department or be crossed trained in more than one functional area. Inspection and testing may be performed on braids, yarns, fabrics for commercial and or R & D products.

What you will do:

  • Inspects and measures product, either visually or through microscopes, to measure and record fabric characterization such as Ends per Inch (EPI), Pics per Inch (PPI), Courses per Inch (CPI), width, diameter, thickness, etc.
  • Inspects product for defects and contamination, according to Work Instructions (WI), Visual Inspection Criteria, SOP’s, and internal specifications.
  • Records and communicates test results manually and/or electronically.
  • Conducts extensive data collection to support the identification of trends to increase yields through process improvement.
  • Enters visual inspections results as well as physical testing results into the applicable tracking databases.
  • Utilizes a variety of testing equipment including, but not limited to optical comparator, hot knife equipment, microscopes, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) technology.
  • Packs product for transfer to final inspection and final packaging.
  • Scours (washes) product to remove contamination and spin finishes raw materials according to WI.
  • Heat sets products according to specification in order to set construction in final form.
  • Cuts product to specification either manually or using laser cutting machine.
  • Performs additional types of medical component processes such as sewing, skeining, coiling, kitting, and heat pressing.
  • Enters information and uses ERP system to report quantities and time spent on jobs.

Who you are:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 0–1-year related experience.
  • Basic understanding of good manufacturing practices and working within regulated industries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to get along well with others and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Possess basic mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a high paced environment and follow WI’s and SOPs.
  • Ability to properly complete paperwork as required according to work instructions, standards, or other specifications.
  • Excellent dependability and reliability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact with various levels of the organization.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use MS Office for email.
  • Willingness to accept change, learn, and work with new processes.
  • Familiarity with an ERP system preferred.
