Cullman Internal Medicine PC is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our practice on-site in Cullman, AL. The role manages charge entry, posting, and AR follow-up to ensure timely, compliant claim submissions and accurate payments.

Responsibilities include resolving denials, reconciling deposits, and collaborating with clinical staff to address documentation gaps. Prior billing experience and EMR proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in healthcare preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years medical billing experience with charge entry, payment posting and AR follow-up.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding principles.
• Familiarity with Medicare, Alabama Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines.
• Experience with EMR/PM systems (eClinicalWorks, SystemedX or similar).

• Perform accurate and timely charge entry for professional services based on provider documentation and coding guidelines.
• Post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and denials with a high degree of accuracy.
• Reconcile daily deposits and ensure alignment between posted payments and bank reports.
• Conduct AR follow-up on outstanding claims, including contacting insurance carriers to resolve unpaid or underpaid claims.
• Review and correct claim rejections and denials, identifying root causes and trends.
• Submit corrected claims and appeals as necessary, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
• Verify patient insurance information and eligibility when needed to support billing accuracy.
• Work aging reports and prioritize accounts based on payer requirements and timely filing limits.
• Communicate effectively with payers, patients, and internal staff regarding billing issues.
• Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and Alabama Medicaid policies.
• Assist with month-end closing processes and reporting as assigned.
• Collaborate with coding and clinical staff to resolve discrepancies in documentation or billing.

The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing key components of the revenue cycle, including charge entry, payment posting, and accounts receivable (AR) follow-up, in addition to standard billing functions. THIS POSITION IS FULLY ON-SITE IN CULLMAN, ALABAMA M-F 8-5

• Experience with EMR/PM systems (eClinicalWorks, SystemedX, or similar)
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
